BERLIN, Oct 10 (Reuters) - Mercedes-Benz Trucks, the European division of commercial vehicle maker Daimler Truck (DTGGe.DE), premiered its battery-electric long-haul truck eActros 600 on Tuesday, with series production planned for the end of 2024. It will be produced on Mercedes-Benz Trucks' existing assembly line in Woerth am Rhein, Germany, in parallel to diesel vehicles. The company is currently building a fleet of around 50 prototype vehicles to be tested with customers, it said. The eActros 600 purchase price is 2.5 times its diesel equivalent. Daimler Truck, Accelera and PACCAR will each own 30% of the joint venture, which will initially focus on LFP battery technology family for commercial battery-electric trucks. "This planned joint venture enables economies of scale beyond Daimler Truck," said Martin Daum, CEO of Daimler Truck. LFP battery-cell maker EVE Energy (300014.SZ) will also serve as the technology partner in the joint venture with a 10% ownership. LFP battery cells were developed in the United States, but Chinese companies such as BYD (002594.SZ) and CATL (300750.SZ) currently dominate global production.

Volvo, a rival of manufacturers such as Daimler Trucks (DTGGe.DE) and Traton (8TRA.DE), forecast 2023 heavy truck sales in Europe and North America of 320,000 for each region. Handelsbanken analyst Hampus Engellau said the raised truck outlook sent a strong message that Volvo sees the second-half of 2023 as a good market for its trucks. Gothenburg-based Volvo, which also makes construction equipment and engines, said there was pent-up demand to replace aging fleets which had helped boost order intake. Shares in Volvo, one of Sweden's biggest employers, rose 1.2% in morning trade in a flat broader market (.OMXSPI). Volvo is not the only automaker to have had a good quarter.

PRAGUE, March 19 (Reuters) - Czech carmaker Skoda would have to cut 3,000 jobs and axe some models if the European Union's "Euro 7" emissions scheme is implemented in its current form, a Skoda board member warned in a TV debate on Sunday. Daimler Trucks (DTGGe.DE) chief Martin Daum for instance said on March 10 it would cost the industry "billions". Overall, more than 10,000 jobs would be at risk in the Czech Republic, including at Skoda's suppliers, Jahn said. The three smaller models represented nearly a third of Skoda's deliveries to customers in 2022. Transport ministers from the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia met on Monday to discuss their efforts to change the Euro 7 proposal.

Truck manufacturer Daimler has a production capacity of around 2000 electric semi-trucks per year. Lack of charging infrastructure is slowing down adoption across the industry. Sure, the batteries are a bit heavier than truckers might like, but that's not what's slowing down the deployment of electric semi-trucks on US streets. But there are only around 100 electric trucks out on the streets. The majority of electric passenger vehicles charging stations have fast charging at around 150 kilowatt.

Established truck makers, such as the more-than-century-old Daimler, are balancing keeping their particular and often extremely cost-sensitive customers happy in the present, while investing for an uncertain future.
